ESPN exclusive: Clemens drank human blood

Andy Curliss, over at the News & Observer, chronicles a subject near and dear to the heart of Pax Arcana: bogus scoops at the four-letter leviathan in Bristol, Conn.

Among the choicest bits of news that never happened (at least as reported by the so-called Worldwide Leader in Sports–a title we’d sooner see bestowed on the good folks of the Beast Lair):

“Late on July 16 and early July 17, ESPN said former Atlanta Falcon quarterback Michael Vick was unlikely to be indicted in the dogfighting federal investigation, according to unnamed sources. On July 17, Vick was indicted.”

Ouch! That’s gotta hurt. Damn those ignorant, uninformed unnamed sources!

  • I know it’s cool for people to hate ESPN, but I am unashamed in my love for the Worldwide Leader. And since I don’t care about their “legitimate” journalism pieces, they can misreport Clemens and Vick all they want.

  • It would be better for all parties involved if ESPN stopped pretending to be a journalistic outfit altogether. Just give me SportsCenter and some goofy top ten shows and PTI and broadcast some games. If some news breaks, just pick it up from the sources originally breaking it, rather than have Mort pretend HE got the big scoop from inside Real Madrid’s huddle or something.

  • Agreed on that.

  • You can keep PTI. Just give me SportCenter–and for God’s sake, somebody get a muzzle for Woody Paige.
