Apology on my Internet by 9 am, Gregg

dungyquietstrength.jpgNow we’re getting somewhere.

In case you haven’t heard it already, here’s the audio of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms talking over what is clearly a stalled CD of crowd noise in the Colts sound system.

So what happens when the team of goodness and light is caught cheating in its epic showdown against the team of evil and villainy?

Mr. Easterbrook, the ball is in your court.

Added: The Pats were also unable to get their radio headsets working during the game.

Added: CBS has said the sound issue was due to feedback in its own sound system and not something from the stadium. Using Easterbrook’s own logic, that means the Colts are surely hiding even more malicious transgressions, and we must assume the worst until we are proven wrong.

Prediction: Easterbrook says that since we have no proof he doesn’t have anything to say about it, but doesn’t recognize that he damns the Patriots for actions he assumes they do, in addition to what they were caught for.

Unfortunately, CBS seems to be falling on that particular sword. From Mike Reiss’ excellent blog on Boston.com:

“Following up on the crowd noise issue in the RCA Dome, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello passes along the following:

‘CBS has informed us that the unusual audio moment heard by fans during the Patriots-Colts telecast was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast. It was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium.'”

But Easterbrook is still a hysterical wingnut.

  3. Damn you guys get on here fast. I was just adding those extra sections and you guys go and make both points for me. What are you, vampires?

No, it’s just that Lucy, Perk and My Blog’s Witty Title don’t post enough. You’re the best game in town, my friend.

More from my man Mike Reiss (and the Colts):

“In reference to questions regarding the audio transmission of yesterday’s game, please refer to the following statement from the NFL:

CBS has informed us that the unusual audio moment heard by fans during the Patriots-Colts game was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast. It was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium.

We trust this will put an end to the ridiculous and unfounded accusations that the Colts artificially enhanced crowd noise at the RCA Dome in any way.”

  6. I don’t understand why CBS would have a CD of crowd noise playing. The noise we heard yesterday was not the noise that feedback makes. If CBS wanted to make it seem louder on TV, they would have just turned up the volume on their crowd microphones. Something seems fishy.

  7. CBS = totally covering for the Colts.

  8. Also, as us former reporters all know, when a public figure refers to allegations of impropriety as “ridiculous and unfounded accusations” they’re true 90% of the time.

Innocent people say, “No, I didn’t do that. Seriously.”

    Guilty people blame the accusers.

  9. Scott Baio Jr.

t-minus 12 hours until Easterbrook channels his inner Rick Reilly and talks about why he had to explain to his nine-year old son what “douche bag” means and why so many people hate him, and why those people take sports too far.

I hear Lifetime’s going to make it a movie.

    Perry,

You got a problem with the amount we post?

What Celtics News have we missed?

Between link lists longer than a TMQ column and YouTube clips of air guitar contests, not much. Oh, and here’s a link you might find helpful for future posts:
