Friday Random 10: Brown Baggin’ It Edition

Pax Arcana

Whether it’s the implosion of the housing market, rising gas prices, or some other awesome side effect of the Bush economy to blame, the Epi-Log is reporting that people are brown-bagging their lunches more than they once did. A survey found that a record 8.5 billion brown bag lunches were toted to the workplace in 2007.

Unfortunately, it seems as though most people are packing lunches that, in terms of flavor, more closely resemble the bag itself than any kind of interesting food product. Epi-Log blogger Michael Park is slightly disappointed in the lack of variety:

The average brown-bagger also seems to be not too creative. I don’t know how the poll was conducted, or whether respondents were given a limited set of foods to choose from, or if it was more free-form, but most people I know who brown-bag go for much more interesting lunches than the ones described above. The last time I brown-bagged, it was foccacia, goat cheese, grapes and bottled water. Of course, the time before that, it was PB & J, cheddar cheese and carrot sticks …. And the time before that, I may have been 9.

Mine was ham and cheese on wheat with a quinoa and cucumber salad.

On to the songs:

Multitude of Casualties — The Hold Steady
All In It — British Sea Power
Bookshop Casanova — The Clientele
Baby Brother — The White Stripes
Take Me Out — Franz Ferdinand
Past in Present — Feist
Cruel — Calexico
Finer Feelings — Spoon
Death is My Sleazy Pay — My Morning Jacket
Wake Up — Arcade Fire

Bonus video:

Reckoner (Radiohead Cover) — Gnarls Barkley

The Rules: The Friday Random 10 is exactly that — random. We open up our iTunes, set the thing on shuffle, and listen to 10 songs. We are not permitted to skip any out of embarrassment or fear of redundancy. Commenters are encouraged to post their own.
