Journalism FAIL

Pax Arcana

Flipping through the Newark Star-Ledger this morning, I paused to consider how a paper that is struggling to stay afloat can afford to send a columnist to China to write inane and uninteresting non-stories about visiting the Beijing Silk Market.

Then I realized how they did it — by firing anyone on the copy desk who can tell the difference between Carl Yastrzemski and Carlos Delgado:

If you can’t read it, the caption says “Carl Yastrzemski, throwing out the first pitch in Game 1 of last year’s World Series, was undergoing bypass heart surgery last night at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after experiencing chest pains.”

Yikes.

  1. Did you take that photo with your iPhone. Boy, do I wish I had one of those.

  2. Esquire

Perhaps the editor just thought Yaz was a particularly swarthy Pole. And “pitched” bats.
