Yael Naim covers Britney Spears (and quick music news)

Father Scott

Yael Naim (i.e., the chick from the Apple commercials) covered Britney Spears’ “Toxic” (one of the best handful of pop songs this decade in a show in Paris this year, and Fuel/Friends has the mp3. Go check it out.

Beyond that excitement, Paste passes along word from M. Ward that he’ll release his next solo album, Hold Time, in February, and that he’s working on both his next She & Him project (it can’t come soon enough) and the collaboration with Jim James of My Morning Jacket and Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes (and of Conor Oberst). That one is a ways off — he says 2010 or 2011 — but it’s still an intriguing prospect.

Back to this year — we’re going to see a bunch of good hip hop in the next couple months. Kanye West’s new album is due in November, while Jay-Z is supposedly aiming for a December 2 release. Meanwhile, Common’s got a new album, Universal Mind Control, coming November 11, and a video directed by Hype Williams. It’s terrible, but check it out for a few seconds while you internally hope that the rest of the album is better.

But seriously, listen to “Toxic.” It’s awesome.
